Easy 5 Steps to a Skincare Routine

Skincare Routine:- You know that moment when you’re so in love with something that it feels like a secret you have to keep? That’s how I feel about my skincare routine.

It’s so simple, but has had such a profound impact on my skin. I’ve always been one to experiment with new skincare products and routines, but the Korean skincare routine is something that has stuck.

I stumbled upon the Korean beauty phenomenon by accident almost two years ago now.

It was an article on Vogue that caught my attention – it discussed how Korean women are obsessed with skincare and that there’s this ‘secret skincare routine’ of 10 steps to amazing skin.

Curious, I read on…and from there things snowballed into obsession territory. Since then, I haven’t looked back. My skin glows thanks to these simple 10 steps:

Skincare Routine

1) Cleansing

The first step in any skincare routine is to wash your face each morning. This is essential in removing impurities and removing makeup and any pollution that may have accumulated during the night.

I use the Neogen Real Fresh Foam Cleanser and I love it. I’ve tried so many different cleansers over the years, but have always gone back to this.

The foam bursts when you pump it and lathers up so easily. It removes every trace of makeup and impurities from your face, but doesn’t leave behind that squeaky clean feeling.

You can find it at Amazon, Sephora, or the Neogen website for about $24. The only thing you need to remember with cleansers is to make sure you cleanse your face after every single use.

It sounds obvious, but I’ve been guilty of letting makeup build-up over the course of a week before. Cleaning your face should be a daily routine, not a once a week thing!

2) Toning

Next, it’s time to tone your face. A lot of people think toners are just to clean your face, but they actually do so much more.

Toners help close the pores, remove any impurities that your cleanser may have missed, and prep your skin for the rest of your skincare routine.

My go-to toner is the CosRX Clear Fit Blemish Toner. I have an oily t-zone and a lot of acne scars on my cheeks and this toner is perfect for my skin type.

It shrinks my pores, helps control oil production, and has just enough acid to get rid of those pesky blemishes. It’s super affordable at about $13 and the only con is that it doesn’t come with a spray!

You can buy it from Amazon or from the CosRX website. Remember that toners come in different scents and levels of acidity, so pick one that is best for your skin type.

For example, if you have sensitive skin, look for a ‘safer’ toner with low acidity. Also, make sure to pat your toner into your skin so that it can work its magic.

3) Face Treatment

Next up is a treatment that will likely be a staple in your skincare routine. Treatments are designed to target specific skin issues like acne, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. A lot of them are also packed with antioxidants and vitamins to nourish and hydrate your skin.

My go-to morning treatment is the Benton Fermentation Eye Cream. It’s a two-in-one product: I use it both as an eye cream for wrinkles and dark circles, and as a spot treatment for redness and breakouts.

The ingredients in this product are so skin-loving: it’s packed with fermented radish and broccoli extract to hydrate and soothe your skin, and is also full of Vitamin C and E to target dark spots and wrinkles.

It’s a pretty potent eye cream, but your skin will thank you. It’s available on Amazon and the Benton website for $23.

4) Face Mask

Once your skin has been cleansed, toned, and treated, time to add a boost of hydration with a face mask. Face masks are designed to be left on your skin for anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes to boost hydration, plump your skin, and give you a glowy complexion.

My go-to face mask is the Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Masks in the Blueberry variant. I love that these masks come in a squeeze tube, are super hydrating and are only $1.

These masks are perfect for oily, acne-prone skin types like mine – they’re soothing and calming and leave your face feeling refreshed and hydrated. You can buy them from Amazon or from the Innisfree website.

5) Exfoliation

Now is the time for gentle exfoliation. Exfoliation is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine, but a lot of people get it wrong.

Exfoliating too harshly or too frequently can actually damage your skin and make your skincare more complicated. Exfoliating once a week is perfect.

It’s enough to get rid of any impurities, unclog pores, and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. My go-to exfoliator is the CosRX One-Step Pimple Clearing Pads.

These pads are a lifesaver and have saved my skin many times. They’re perfect for oily and acne prone skin types, and are great for exfoliating and unclogging pores.

They come in two variants: one for blemishes, and one for blackheads. They’re super affordable at $13 and last for a long time – and come with a toner! You can buy them from Amazon or from the CosRX website.
